In 1117 Alfonso I punishes the population of Alcanit. About 1150 Ramon Berenguer IV establishes a camp in Pui Pinos from where it organizes Alcanit's conquest and destroys his hamlet. Alcanit disappears and there begins the birth of a new city, Alcañiz, with certificate of birth granted by Ramon Berenguer on November,of 1157 with the form of a “Carta Puebla”.

The new accession is integrated by a small strength in Pui Pinos's summit and a hamlet, not very extensively, in his hillside north-east limatado by the current streets this of San Pedro, Escolapios and edges and north of the “Cuartelillo”; having form of half moon, and from his center a way called Palomar’s street, towards the bridge that crosses Guadalope’s.

In 1179 Alfonso II donates the castle to Calatrav's Order, which enlarges and surrounds it with walls. With the safety of the castle the population increases, in proof the construction of paths churches in the tops of his half moon: that of the Santiago in the northern part, current “Cuartelillo”, constructed in 1181, and that of San Pedro in the southern part, maybe ordered to construct for Alfonso VII of Castile and whose front page was moved to the “Cuartelillo”.
